Dominique Viera, Vice President of Operations for Metaproject and member of the Board of APRIMIN, was invited to participate in these meetings that took place on June 4-6 in Antofagasta and which also included a visit to the Spence mine.
During the APEC Citizen Woman Export Program meeting, on June 4, Dominique made a presentation on the topic of “The Insertion of Women in Mining Supply Companies”. Government authorities such as the Regional Mayor Marco Antonio Diaz, the Seremi of the Ministry of Women and EG Katherine Veas and the Regional Director of ProChile Carlos Rivas attended the meeting, as well as the presence of Julia Torreblanca VOP of Minera Cerro Verde Peru Silvain Goudreau from Canada and businesswoman Paula Jaras.
Interviewed by regional media Dominique commented that – “… even though the experience of exporting services has not been easy, she has been able to take advantage of the tools that ProChile and APEC have provided” – recalling the award she received in 2018 during APEC held in New Guinea, for the mining tire recycling project to be carried out in Tierra Amarilla.

Between June 5 and 6, the APEC Joint Project Chile – Canada “Women´s Participation in the Mining Industry” was held, which was held at the Finning facilities in Antofagasta. The event was attended by the undersecretary of mining Pablo Terrazas, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Women and EG Carolina Cuevas, the Intendant of the Antofagasta region Marco Antonio Díaz and the Seremi of the Ministry of Women and EG Katherine Veas.
In this activity it was Dominique’s responsibility to moderate the conversation panel with the topic “How inclusion Promote Business Productivity”. The panel was made up of Marchello Marchese Executive President of Finning South America, Julia Torreblanca VP Corporate Affairs of Minera Cerro Verde, Natasha Nunes senior specialist Extractive Sector IADB and Michelle AscChair Global Mining Guidelines Group – Australia
The day of day 5 ended with a wine of honor in the old train station of the Antofagasta Bolivia railway, where attendees were able to witness a traditional dance show and visit the historic facilities. Hosting the event was Solange Medina, FCAB Sustainability and Public Affairs Manager.
Visit to Spence Mine
On June 6, the APEC delegation made an interesting visit to Minera Spence, which is led by Mia Gous, the first general manager of Large Mining in Chile.
On the occasion, the APEC delegation toured the Spence workshops and were received by their workers, who related their experiences of female inclusion to the different areas of the task. Dominique Viera, was in charge of moderating the “Mining 4.0. Creating New opportunities for Women in the Industry ”, which was held at Spence’s facilities, in which Mia Gous, Marcel Villegas, Partner Delloitte Chile and Maria Dolores Vallenilla from IADB participated.
